The Renewable Energy Development Association has published data on global trends in the low-carbon hydrogen application segment
The Renewable Energy Development Association included a section on global trends in the low-carbon hydrogen application segment in its quarterly review of the Russian renewable energy market for the first quarter of 2026.

According to the review, as of the beginning of 2026, the production of low-carbon hydrogen reached 1 million tons. The average annual growth rate (CAGR) of production in recent years has reached 13.6%.

The review also provides data on investments in the industry. Investments have increased from $0.5 billion in 2021 to $7.9 billion in 2025. The average annual growth rate of investments during this period has been 99.4%.

It is noted that the main applications of low-carbon hydrogen are in oil refining, industry, and transportation.

According to the survey, about 60% of the world's electrolysis cell production capacity and 65% of the world's low-carbon hydrogen production capacity are concentrated in China.

The section also provides examples of projects using hydrogen technologies in public transport. In particular, the Porto Hydrogen BRT project in Porto (Portugal) was considered, which provides for the use of a hydrogen BRT public transport system, 12 CaetanoBus H₂ CityGold buses, dedicated lanes and hydrogen infrastructure.

In addition, the Jyväskylä Hydrogen Bus Pilot project in Jyväskylä (Finland) was presented, in which five hydrogen buses are integrated into the urban public transport system and operated jointly with the regional operator Linkki.

The review provides data on the production of low-carbon hydrogen, investments in the industry, areas of its application, distribution of production capacities, as well as examples of the use of hydrogen technologies in the transport sector.
